Teena May, aka The Happy Black Songstress, was raised in Winchester VA (hometown of Patsy Cline). Classically trained in piano and flute as a child, she transitioned to acoustic guitar shortly after leaving for college, listening to the radio and learning pop songs by ear. She's performed in Los Angeles, New York City, Washington DC, Paris and now New Orleans, since moving here September 2021. She is also a songwriter for other artists and various media outlets (TV, Film, Commercials, streaming services, etc.). Teena May performs her original country, folk and pop tunes with her friend and drummer Adam Coolsaet. You may also see her French Quarter Fest debut at the New Orleans Jazz Museum on April 15th, 2023 at 11:00am - 12:00pm (set times may vary closer to the event).
