"The Garden District Jazz Band was founded in 1994 by David W. Hansen. Originally called the David Hansen Quartet, Hansen Jazz Band and after a few years the Garden District Band and the New Orleans Garden District Orchestra (dividing the small group and the big band). Hansen has had the honor to continuously feature many of the most elite jazz musicians in New Orleans. The band has performed internationally and enjoys a steady stream of public, private, corporate and wedding events. Since 2006, the Garden District Band has celebrated the highest approbation while performing seven nights a week at the prestigious Houston's Restaurant on St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans. The Garden District Band is a sophisticated jazz ensemble performing from a huge repertoire ranging from classic standards, very old New Orleans traditional jazz, big band hits, bebop, Latin/Jazz to funky New Orleans street beat or second line type songs and originals in a very creative and highly improvised setting. Jazz and Latin groove infused the Garden District Band performs from the Classic American Songbook with Swing, Ballads, Bossa Nova, Samba and quasi-rhumba styles with a unique New Orleans feel. They perform in the style of the incredible, great, swinging piano trios and also feature vocals within the band, guests on trumpet, tenor saxophone, trombone as well as featured vocalists fronting the band."
