Since forming in 2003 the Creole String Beans have defined a new era in South Louisiana rock 'n roll by digging up the most obscure New Orleans and Louisiana Swamp Pop chestnuts, mixing in the most iconic of local glory-days hits, and delivering this hot musical gumbo with style and energy. Their crowd pleasing performances range from Saint's tailgate parties (where guests like Jimmy Buffet respond to the vibe by grabbing a guitar and belting out songs) to sweat soaked dance fiends whirling in ecstasy at Jazz Fest. The Beans started out as a vehicle for Rick Olivier (vocals/guitar) and Rob Savoy (vocals/bass) to keep the cherished sounds of their South Louisiana roots alive. Rob is a veteran of popular rock outfits like Bluerunners and Cowboy Mouth while Rick labored in more obscure combos like the Bush Hogs and Marais Boys. Bryan Barry joined them on drums after completing stints with bluesman T-Model Ford and other Fat Possum Records artists. In 2005, the Beans expanded their sound by adding keyboard secret weapon Brian Rini to contribute piano, fat organ riffs, and vocals. Not long after, the Terrytown Horns section of Travis Blotsky and veteran Derek Huston came on board to provide beefy tenor and bari-sax textures. With the right musicians finally in place, the Beans released their first CD in September 2009 and proceeded to embark on their busiest year ever with performances at French Quarter Fest, Jazz Fest, Voodoo Music Experience, Family Gras, and Gretna Fest! With their new release, Shrimp Boots & Vintage Suits, the group moves forward once again with a fresh batch of authentic sounding original songs added to their already successful South Louisiana repertoire. The album features hard rocking funk grooves about out of control spillway parties, soulful blues of jilted lovers and female convicts, and tongue-in-cheek swing tunes about shopping mall paranoia and thrift store comfort that blend seamlessly with swamp rock obscurities from deeper in the crypt than any band has gone before. From jump, the band's mission has been to keep the great indigenous music of New Orleans and South Louisiana alive in a live context; to keep the dancers sweating on the floor and the listeners smiling behind their beers. Shrimp Boots & Vintage Suits is simply the next step in their evolution as Swamp Pop Ambassadors to the World.
