Join us for the Satchmo Salute Parade, a vibrant second-line procession celebrating the 25th anniversary of Satchmo SummerFest and honoring the enduring legacy of Louis Armstrong. This celebration winds through the streets of Treme and the French Quarter, bringing together musicians, dancers, community groups, and culture bearers for one of the weekend’s most anticipated moments.

Jazz Mass and Parade Kick-Off

The morning begins with a Jazz Mass at 10:00 AM inside St. Augustine Church. Following the service, the Treme Brass Band leads the congregation outside, officially starting the Satchmo Salute Parade at approximately 11:00 AM.

Parade Route and Directions

Start: St. Augustine Church – 1210 Governor Nicholls Street
End: New Orleans Jazz Museum – 400 Barracks Street
Distance: Approximately 0.7 miles
Start Time: Between 11:00–11:15 AM

Route Overview:

  1. Parade forms on Governor Nicholls Street (1200 block), facing the French Quarter.
  2. March straight down Governor Nicholls Street to North Rampart Street.
  3. Turn left on Rampart Street and continue toward Esplanade Avenue.
  4. Turn right on Esplanade Avenue and proceed 6½ blocks toward the river.
  5. Turn right on Decatur Street.
  6. Turn left on Barracks Street (traveling against traffic flow with escort).
  7. Enter the New Orleans Jazz Museum through the Barracks Street gate near Decatur.

The parade ends with a festive arrival on the museum grounds—just in time for the final day of festival music and celebration!
